BIO
Bianca Caloi di Grassi is a Brazilian visual artist from São Paulo, based in Monaco since 2013. Her work is rooted in logic, which serves as a starting point for discovering deeper layers of complexity. Within these layers, emotions and poetry quietly emerge, revealing nuanced messages beyond binary contrasts.
With a BA in Graphic Design from Central Saint Martins (2010) and an MFA from Camberwell College of Arts (2017), Bianca has exhibited her wall-based reliefs and drawings in the UK, Monaco, Brazil, Japan, France, and Portugal. Her art embraces imperfection within structure, reflecting her belief in finding meaning between zero and one.
ARTIST STATEMENT
"Play is part of the process. Allow it in”, says one of the artworks of Bianca Caloi di Grassi. The phrase is not visible to the naked eye, as the artist and graphic designer works using binary code (sequences of numbers zero and 1 applied in computer language). With dozens of wooden blocks lined up in a specific way, she can write hidden messages and surprise her audience when the quotes are revealed.
Her artistic practices are primarily wall-based reliefs, which she works with wood (mostly) and other playful materials. Her art usually follows the idea of an intriguing minimalistic complexity.
